IMPLEMENTED RECYCLING SCHEME AT ITV SOUTHBANK
Nicki has a great understanding of both internal communications and recycling which made her an ideal partner for this project. With communications key to the success of the new recycling scheme, she worked closely with Aktrion and ITV and helped ensure that we delivered the desired results.

Aktrion provides facilities management and support services to a wide range of businesses. The company won a contract to implement a new recycling scheme at ITV’s Southbank Tower in London, a building with three floors of studios with a restaurant and cafe and 19 floors of offices. The commercial TV company was looking to over double their recycling rate, and reduce their contamination rate, at Southbank Tower within six months.
I worked with the Aktrion Recycling and Waste Management Business Manager and my associate, Kirsteen Harrison to submit the winning proposal. As a team, we then developed a programme to appoint a new waste contractor, source internal containers, implement new waste policies, raise awareness amongst staff and train cleaners and contractors.
I produced a plan to encourage and enable participation in, and correct usage of, the new system by all who would enter ITV. This included staff, new joiners, cleaners and caterers, other subcontractors and visitors. The plan involved a three step process – pre launch activity to manage the change, launch activity to raise awareness, and post launch activity to provide feedback and support correct ongoing usage.
I then worked with the team to deliver the plan, producing all communications materials including flyers, posters, bin signage, a presentation to cleaners, an induction for new joiners, display stands and giveways. We ran a launch event with a stand in the restaurant, and desk-stepping to speak to as many staff as possible.
ITV achieved their target of over doubling their recycling rate, and reducing their contamination rate, in less than six months. The Head of Service Delivery, with whom we worked closely, was delighted with the smooth running of the implementation programme and the results achieved.
